Neither one of these patterns is recent but they are both timeless and EASY to sew. I purchased this medium weight slinky type knit from Fabric Mart last year. The fabric has a wonderful floral texture running through it.
I had a twin set in mind when I bought the fabric but was not sure of the style. After washing the fabric and admiring it for a while I knew I wanted a cardigan with some “swing” to it. Enter Jalie 2919.
The pattern has four tucks that run from the shoulder seam to the waist. It is an interesting detail that gives the cardigan a nice shape.
The only changes I made were to straighten the bottom of the shawl collar. The pattern has an angle to it. It is a nice design feature but I chose not to go with it on this version. The other change was to shorten the sleeves by 1″.
I wanted a simple t-shirt style top to pair with the cardigan. I chose Jalie 2805, a go-to pattern when sewing knit tops. This pattern is very versatile. I made the cap sleeve version.
Both pieces work just as well together or separately. I know I’ll be getting a lot of wear out of these tops.
I made the cardigan once before in a lightweight jersey. It is not obvious in the photo below but I made a mistake when sewing the tucks. I sewed the tucks on the inside rather than the outside of the cardigan. I was actually pleased with the result. A friend of mine, who also sews, mentioned that she preferred the tucks on the inside when making the cardigan in a solid fabric.
Nice work. And isn’t Jalie the best?
Thank you Carey. Yes, Jalie is the best. I’ve never been disappointed with their patterns.
