I wanted to sew a cardigan to wear with these pants. While looking for fabric on-line I came across this rayon/lycra double knit from Gorgeous Fabrics. The color is called Jelly Bean. What’s not to like about a name like that?!!! The fabric is soft and just the right weight for what I had in mind.
I like the fit of this cardigan. It is has some shaping at the waist which I find flattering. I made a size S (8-10). I usually make a size 8 when sewing the “Big 4” patterns. I chose to make the longer version of this cardigan. Best of all, I sewed it “straight up” i.e. no alterations or changes. That is always a plus.
This cardigan is part of my master plan to add more solid colored tops to my wardrobe. As part of this plan I have a sub-plan. The sub-plan is for me to buy an extra yard when buying fabric for a cardigan. That way I will be able to sew a top to match. I feel that this will allow me to get more wear out of my cardigans.
I chose to make Jalie 2806 to pair with my cardigan. I’ve made a few tops from this pattern and they never disappoint.
McCall’s 6844 also includes a cardigan with a peplum that was very popular with sewists a couple of years ago. Below is my version of the peplum cardigan from this pattern.

Great cardigan. Such a versatile pattern. Good idea to buy that extra yard of fabric!
