I must start this post by declaring my love for this coat. It is so much fun to wear. Here’s the scoop on the coat: It is unlined and only has three pieces. The wrong side of your fabric will show so this must be taken into consideration when choosing fabric. I went with a 100% wool medium weight crepe from Mood Fabrics. The classic camel color pictured on the pattern envelope appealed to me.
This came together quickly and was a fun to sew. The pattern calls for flat-fell seams which make for a beautiful finish on the inside of the coat. The only change I made was to add 1″ to the sleeves.
I am editing this post because I was contacted by someone asking me if I had any issues with the dart. I had not even thought of mentioning it but I’m glad it came up. I marked the darts and followed the directions without hesitation. I think the key is marking the darts well.
I was not sure how I would feel about this coat as I normally like my garments a little more structured but I love it. I just had to say it again. I know I will get a lot of wear out of this piece. It is very versatile. I’m on the lookout for an interesting plaid to make this pattern again. I’ve seen some nice plaid and houndstooth versions on-line.
Hi Lucy, really nice job. I’ll be
putting this pattern on my list. Just started following your blog – you are very good!!
Thank you Diane!
Oh this is gorgeous!
Thank you!
This is so chic–well done!
Thank you Jennifer!
Beautiful!. How did you finish the edges and them?
I finished the edges and the hem as the pattern recommended by turning under 5/8″. It went very well.
This is one of my favorite coats, too and several off my relatives have said it is the favorite thing I have made. It is so simple but so stylish. Beautiful job as always, Lucy.
Thank you Lori. I loved your coat when I first saw it and couldn’t wait to get to the pattern.
Your styling of it is amazing! I love that you can make something so beautiful without all the work!
Thanks Cindy! It was a very satisfying project to sew.
Very classy coat and it looks great on you. Kudos to your photographer as well! That last shot really shows off the drape of the coat. Of course he’s lucky to have such a gorgeous model to work with.
Thank you Nancy! I must say that my photographer was happy with the “twirling” pictures.
Lucy, this is beautiful! I can’t wait to see your plaid version!
